Below is my adventure into the world of computer simulated physics in Blender. Can't wait to see what Houdini has to offer!
I was going to add the work I've done for the new SmartyCam here because it is some of my best work and the majority of it is physics simulations BUT I didnt want to repeat myself, so you can check that work out if you haven't already by clicking the button below.
This is an on going NFT project I'm working on for a client where I will be making a series of these characters all with different traits and it will be one of the first NFT's where 50% of the proceeds will be going to several different mental health charities/organisations.
Below was just a fun experiment with geometry nodes and rigid body physics. I basically put a force fiel in the center and animated the strenght so the rigid bodies just try and chase it as they ar ebeing pushed around by this icosphere. Love the subsurface look as well. Rendered in eevee.
Here is the result of an idea that didnt work lol!
I had an idea to create the words 4GB with a type of brain that would pulse and throb as it's to be used for the 'internal memory' section of a device but instead it ended up looking like some quivering meat - very unsettling.
Below is the 2nd attempt. Much better...
This is a particle system simulation I made for the Power Distribution Unit. I wanted to try and convey the sense of data flow and the unit uses green and red lights - at the time Squid Game was at its peak and I was going to do green and red particles but we ended up moving onto another project but I still really like the way it looks and I havent got anything particle based on my portfolio so here is some :)
Fluid Sim Day 1 - Test 23/04/21
This was my first attempt at doing a fluid simulation using the demo version of Flip Fluids Addon for Blender. After using this for just a few hours I was hooked and bought the paid version straight away. I just felt like 'I need this'!
I had a lot of fun with it and this led me getting into more complex and relevant commercial work.
Day 2 Fluid Sim - Manta Ray. 25/04/21
For a few months now I've been wanting to model and rig a manta ray with some cool bioluminescent markings on its body that move like Rorschach from the Watchmen. After downloading the Flip Fluids addon I knew this was the time. I wanted to create this fantasy manta ray and get it to swim into the domain and cause the bubbles to swirl under the water with the movement from it's fins. This one took about 8 hours to bake and 9 hours to render. I think I definitely did the domain wrong and the sample rate way too high but it looks cool! Must revisit this.
Fluid Sims Day 3 - Throwing a Slice of Orange into a Glass 03/05/21
I wanted to throw a slice of orange into a glass. So I did. This is what happened. Many hours or trial and error but im pretty happy with how it turned out. Sadly I couldn't render it all with cycles as it would have looked much better but it would have taken 25 hours to render so rendered it in eevee which took 40 minutes and still looks passable.
Here's an image comparison of what cycles looks like compared to eevee.
Here's some wierd test of cloth simulation on a historic stone bust with some very basic animation. I wanted to see if it would be possible to advertise fashion using 3D and it definitely is, I just need more practice.
Fluid Sim Day 305 - Rechargeable
Things have definitely come a long way with using the flip fluids add on now for almost a year and I'm getting to grips with it quite well. I remember seeing an animation on Apple's website (and various others) of some text or a battery symbol that was charging and I thought it looked pretty cool but i wanted to see what it would look like if you actually did a fluid sim with some text as a container. Well here ya go!
Tbf this was the result of trial and error as well... The first result was a really good effort and very satisfying to watch. It took absolutely aaages to bake but sadly the animation just took too long to play through and we needed something a bit quicker so sadly had to scrap it and redo it but vertically (which makes way more sense actually lol). But it's not being completely scrapped because I'm going to use it here on my portfolio!
Check the lengthyness.
