For this project I was tasked to create a Sonic ID for sports wear and street apparell brand, Foot Asylum. A sonic ID is essentially an audio logo. With me being a music producer as well, this was a special project and couldn't wait to get creating some sound designs.
Before I went on to create anything, I went on to research the brand in detail as well as other brands that have a sonic ID. I wanted to find the epitome of what the brand represents, it's ethos and it's primary characteristics.
If you'd like to look at the research I did, you can download the pdf by clicking the button below. Sadly, the videos don't work in the pdg but there are some links.
After doing some research, I went on to gather and create assets. I went to freesound.org to collect foley recordings, as well as creating my own sounds using Native Instruments playbox, combined with some drums and bass drops.
In addition to this, I sampled some audio from Foot Asylums YouTube channel and also got my girlfriend to record her whispering "Foot Asylum" which ended up being my favorite.
Below you can hear all the 16 ideas I created. Final video is at the end!
Once we chose a favorite, I created a short animation to go with it. I chose the obvious Black, White and Green colour palette, and wanted to encorporate Nike Air Max, Football, Clothing and Abstract imagery.
You can see the final design at the top of this page.
I also did another version, where I ran the animation through some clever AI software which increases the frame rate via AI interpolation, which gave some interesting results. The original video was 30 frames per second and after running it through the AI, the video became 240 fps. See below.
I also slowed down the video so you can see in a little more detail what's actually happening. This is 4X slower.
And here are some stills from the video.
