I was asked to make this video for Kawasaki to advertise the new MXK10 Display Data Logger for their ZXK10 Ninja series. The aim was just to show the main features of the dash as well as the different screens for day and night time modes.
I made the whole video in After Effects. The background was cut into 3 layers in order to give a paralax effect and the sky was replaced with a time lapse and colour graded to match the Ninja colours. The reflection of the dash was done with the ground layer duplicated and set as a compound blur above a duplicate of th dash.
I also used Element 3D to create the 3D text and added some lightning strikes to the composition with stock effects in AE and made them react to the alpha layer of the 3D text and the annotations, to get the lightning to react with the stuff in the scene.
If I was given this task now, I would have probably created the whole scene in Blender using a 3D model of the dash so I could get some real reactive lighting and shadows and real reflections, not fake ones!
*NOTE* This was before I had learned Blender - if only I was given this task now...
